Something to Think About A religion that gives nothing, costs nothing, and suffers nothing is worth nothing. Martin Luther If your Gospel isn't touching others, it hasn't touched you! Curry R. Blake Missions is not the ultimate goal of the church. Worship is. Missions exists because worship doesn't. John Piper His authority on earth allows us to dare to go to all the nations. His authority in heaven gives us our only hope of success. And His presence with us leaves us no other choice. John Scott The Church exists for nothing else but to draw people into Christ, to makes them like Him. If they are not doing that, all the cathedrals, clergy, missions, sermons, even the Bible itself, are simply a waste of time. God became Man for no other purpose. C. S. Lewis A fresh encounter with God will reveal His holiness and your sinfulness. God will call upon you to return to Him in purity and holiness that only He can grant you. In His way and in His timing, God will guide you to join Him in His redemptive mission to reconcile a lost world to Himself. Dr. Henry Blackaby |

A Tribute to All Who Serve We have been bloodied, we have seen what we are fighting against and know what we are fighting for. The journalist, talking heads, radio jocks, college students, or peace activists all have those freedoms because of the old warriors who paid the price and the young warriors now in harms way. Ecclesiastes said it best, there is a time for peace and there is a time for war. And the defense of freedom, our domestic tranquility, and our way of life here in America is worthy of this fight. If you are an American who lives in Freedom then our troops are worthy of your support! So if we choose to not support the members of our armed forces we must say goodbye to freedom...... and our world will never be the same again!! |

Things My Mother Taught Me ~ My Mother taught me LOGIC - "If you fall off that swing and break your neck, you can't go to the store with me." My Mother taught me MEDICINE - "If you don't stop crossing your eyes, they're going to freeze that way." My Mother taught me ESP - "Put your sweater on; don't you think that I know when you're cold?" My Mother taught me TO MEET A CHALLENGE - "What were you thinking? Answer me when I talk to you... Don't talk back to me!" My Mother taught me HUMOR - "When that lawn mower cuts off your toes, don't come running to me." MY Mother taught me PATIENCE - "Sure, you can do that. As soon as you're 21 and leave the house!" My Mother taught me DIPLOMACY - "I don't want to hear who started it, It takes two to fight." My Mother taught me SHARING - "Play nicely with that or I'll just take it away from both of you." My Mother taught me ETIQUETTE - "Use your fork! If I see that hand on the table again I'll Slap it!" But most of all, My Mother taught me LOVE - "You know that whatever you do or whatever happens, I'll stand behind you because I Love you." |

Let us come, then, hungering and thirsting for the body and blood of the Lord. He will be present to satisfy the spiritual desires of which He is Himself the author. It would be no feast without Himself. Mere common bread, mere common wine, mere meeting with one another, would this sacrament be unless Jesus Himself were here. "He must break the bread, if it is to nourish my soul. He must pour out the wine, if it is to refresh and gladden me." And we doubt not that He will do this. We come in obedience to His command, and we rely upon His promise. We will seek to commune under their influence, and then we will go away from the table joyfully and exultingly declaring: "As the apple-tree among the trees of the wood, so is my Beloved among the sons. I sat down under his shadow with great delight and his fruit was sweet to my taste." - Unknown |

Spiritual Spring Cleaning... Cleanse Your Heart - Get Spiritually Healthy: Psalm 51:10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. Clean Out Your Mouth - Deep Clean Inside and Out: Luke 6:45 The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks. Renew Your Mind - Take Out the Garbage: Romans 12:2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is-his good, pleasing and perfect will. Repent from Hidden Sin - Clean Out Your Spiritual Closets: Psalm 32:3-5 When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. For day and night your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was sapped as in the heat of summer. Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, "I will confess my transgressions to the LORD"-and you forgave the guilt of my sin. Release Unforgiveness and Bitterness - Get Rid of Old Baggage: Ephesians 4:31-32 Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you Involve Jesus in Your Daily Life - Let the Son Shine In: 1 Corinthians 1:9 God ... is the one who invited you into this wonderful friendship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. |

Quotables... "We are the Bibles the world is reading; We are the creeds the world is needing; We are the sermons the world is heeding." ~ Billy Graham "To ease another's heartache is to forget one's own." ~ Abraham Lincoln "We have a God who delights in impossibilities." ~ Billy Sunday "God knows our situation; He will not judge us as if we had no difficulties to overcome. What matters is the sincerity and perseverance of our will to overcome them." ~ C. S. Lewis "Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can." ~ Charles Wesley |

An Easter Prayer Lord, Thank You for the gift of HOPE You gave us on Easter morning. Because of You we know That no problem is too difficult And even death does not have power over us. Thank You for the gift of JOY You gave us when You were resurrected. Because of You we know That no matter how challenging life may be, in the end we will rejoice again. Thank you for the gift of LOVE You gave us when You laid down Your life. Because of You we know That there is no sin too great to separate us and we are incredibly valuable to You. Thank You for the gift of LIFE You gave us when You left the tomb. Because of Easter we know This world is just the beginning And we will spend forever in heaven with You. We celebrate You, JESUS With hearts full of praise and gratitude For who You are and all You've done for us! Amen ~ Holley Gerth |

As he came near and saw the city, he wept over it. (Luke 19:41) Palm Sunday should have been the happiest single day in Jesus' life. After all, the crowds had gone after Him. In John 12:19 the Pharisees murmur: "Look! The whole world has gone after him!" It seemed that way when Palm Sunday began. It looked as though His preaching ministry was to be crowned with success, after all! But Jesus knew better. He knew how fickle the crowds were; He knew that, when push came to shove, He couldn't really count on the people; and that when the chips were down and the cross went up, all would forsake Him and flee, says Mark 14:50. The same people who on Palm Sunday, had waved Jesus in, on Good Friday waved Jesus out again. He who rode into town in triumph, was carried out of town on a cross. How quick were the crowds to shout "Hosanna!" on Palm Sunday--but also how quick they were to shout, "Crucify Him!" on Good Friday, when He didn't fit into their notions of what a respectable Messiah should look and act like. Before the week was out, Jesus had been arrested, tried, whipped, humiliated, spat upon, cursed at, plotted against, crucified, dead, and buried. When He was born, there was no room for him in the Inn. When He died, there was no room for Him in the world. Is there room in your heart for Jesus? |

Success... If your gift is to encourage others, do it! If you have money, share it generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly. Don't just pretend that you love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Stand on the side of the good. Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other. Never be lazy in your work, but serve the Lord enthusiastically. (Romans 12:8-11) Marshall Field, quoted in "Predictions & Prescriptions" newsletter, gives twelve points to remember for successful living: 1. The value of time 2. The success of perseverance 3. The pleasure of working 4. The dignity of simplicity 5. The worth of character 6. The power of kindness 7. The influence of example 8. The obligation of duty 9. The wisdom of economy 10. The virtue of patience 11. The improvement of talent 12. The joy of originating In a nutshell, the best advice for successful living: Be kind, be diligent, do good, model Christian living, and above all love one another. And over all the above, don't forget God. Suggested prayer: "Dear God, help me to so live that my life will model what it means to be truly successful (in your view) so that people will see you in me and want the same for themselves. Thank you for hearing and answering my prayer. Gratefully, in Jesus' name, Amen." |

Something to Think About
Heaven is not here, it's There. If we were given all we wanted here, our hearts would settle for this world rather than the next. God is forever luring us up and away from this one, wooing us to Himself and His still invisible Kingdom, where we will certainly find what we so keenly long for.

Words to Ponder... Ready or not, some day it will all come to an end. There will be no more sunrises, no minutes, hours or days. All the things you collected, whether treasured or forgotten, will pass to someone else. Your wealth, fame and temporal power will shrivel to irrelevance. It will not matter what you owned or what you were owed. Your grudges, resentments, frustrations and jealousies will finally disappear. So too your hopes, ambitions, plans and to-do lists will expire. The wins and losses that once seemed so important will fade away. It won`t matter where you came from or what side of the tracks you lived on at the end. It won`t matter whether you were beautiful or brilliant. Even your gender and skin color will be irrelevant. So what will matter? How will the value of your days be measured? What will matter is not what you bought but what you built, not what you got but what you gave. What will matter is not your success but your significance. What will matter is not what you learned but what you taught. What will matter is every act of integrity, compassion, courage, or sacrifice that enriched, empowered or encouraged others to emulate your example. What will matter is not your competence but your character. What will matter is not how many people you knew, but how many will feel a lasting loss when you're gone. What will matter is not your memories but the memories that live in those who loved you. What will matter is how long you will be remembered, by whom and for what. Living a life that matters doesn`t happen by accident. It`s not a matter of circumstance but of choice. |

Morning Choices What do you do early in the morning? "I hit the snooze button." In Genesis 28 we read that Jacob rose early in the morning to make a vow to God at Bethel. "I usually flip on the news, check the weather." God told Moses, "Be ready in the morning, and come up in the morning unto Mount Sinai." "Morning? What's that?" David rose early in the morning for worship, prayer, and meditation. "The first thing I do is get coffee in the bloodstream!" On the first Easter Sunday morning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to the tomb where Jesus had been buried. And that's where they met the risen Lord! You can meet Him, too. There's no better time than the first, uninterrupted minutes of every day. Tomorrow morning would you consider setting aside the first moments of your day, and get alone with God in His Word and in prayer? Remember, you don't have to go through your day alone. |

Every Thought Captive Do you ever find that when you sit down to pray, a thousand distracting thoughts cross your mind? The English poet, John Donne, described this problem well. Here's what he said: A memory of yesterday's pleasures, A fear of tomorrow's dangers, A straw under my knee, A noise in my ear, A light in mine eye, An anything, A nothing, A fancy, A chimera in my brain, Troubles me in my prayer. Can you relate? I've found that it takes some time to get a quiet heart before the Lord. Sometimes I start by singing a worship chorus or reading a psalm out loud and asking the Lord to settle my heart. When I'm struggling to concentrate, I also ask God to help me do what's described in 2 Corinthians 10:5. It says, "We are to take every thought captive to obey Christ." |

Successful New Year's Resolutions At the beginning of every year, many New Year's Resolutions are made and promptly broken within a few months or even a few days. Why is it so for us hard for us to keep our resolutions? It's because we don't involve God in the process of setting our goals. This year, when you make your New Year's Resolutions, put a spiritual focus on them by following these biblical principles. (NIV) 1. Pleasing the Lord with Your Goals Colossians 3:23-24 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. As you make your resolutions, make them with the Lord in mind. Think about what areas of your character you know God would be pleased for you to change. Ask God, "What do You what me to do with my life this year?" 2. Be Realistic Proverbs 14:8 The wisdom of the prudent is to give thought to their ways, but the folly of fools is deception. Don't set yourself up for failure by picking goals that are impracticable. You'll become discouraged and give up before you see any results. Instead, select a few goals that are most important. Make sure that the goals stretch you a little beyond your comfort zone but are still attainable. Rome wasn't built in a day and your goals shouldn't try to revamp your whole life in one year. 3. Define Specific Steps for Each Goal Luke 9:1-2 When Jesus had called the Twelve together, he gave them power and authority to drive out all demons and to cure diseases, and he sent them out to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick. Jesus had a plan for everything he did. There was never a time when he "winged" it. Don't expect to be successful without a plan. Each goal needs to be defined in terms of the steps that are needed to see the goal to fruition. Be specific and write down exactly how you will accomplish each goal. 4. Set a Completion Date for Each Goal Proverbs 20:4 A sluggard does not plow in season; so at harvest time he looks but finds nothing. You also need to set a time frame for achieving each goal, otherwise the temptation to put off or forget about your resolutions will bring you to the end of the year without any victories. Don't be like the sluggard who looks for a harvest but finds nothing. Plow in season so that you will have something to reap at harvest time. 5. Praying Daily About Your Goals Proverbs 16:3 Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and your plans will succeed. When we put God in charge of our goals we will succeed. It is His promise! 6. Monitor Your Progress 2 Chronicles 24:13a The men in charge of the work were diligent, and the repairs progressed under them. Set a time every month to review your goals and check your progress. If you are diligent you will see progress. You might even want to develop a chart so that you can chronicle your progress. As you achieve each goal you can reward yourself with a predetermined prize such as going to your favorite restaurant or a new outfit. 7. Don't Give Up James 5:11 As you know, we consider blessed those who have persevered. You have heard of Job's perseverance and have seen what the Lord finally brought about. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy. Don't give up when you blow it. When you miss the mark, get back up and keep trying. You only fail when you quit. |
